sales and marketing manager.

Standard Industries in Ventura County literally reached new heights with the purchase of a new Liebherr A934 CHD Wheel Excavator. “The Liebherr is just a great machine,” said Sales and Marketing Manager, Marty Berkowitz. “The machine's cab allows the operator much greater visibility of the area he is working in and the materials he picks up. This improves safety, loading time and overall yard efficiency.”

The A934 CHD comes equipped with a tier three engine that conforms to all the current California State emissions requirements. The wheeled excavator weighs 92,800 pounds. It's heavy-duty undercarriage [HD] has four outrigger supports, ideal for the lifting of heavy loads with a multi-tine grapple, bulk material grapple, or large electro-magnet. The unit also has four rigid variants of cab elevation or an operator's cab that is hydraulically adjustable in height that provides a clear view of the ship's cargo hold or truck. The excavator's maximum reach is 56 feet. It has a 31'6” boom and a 24'7” stick.

Standard Industries purchased the Liebherr A934 CHD to feed the scrap metal to their Sierra 900 ton shear. The excavator is also used to pick up materials and stack them for storage and staging. The Liebherr allows for a far greater reach than was previously possible for Standard Industries. “We needed a machine that could lift to a greater height for our operations to be more efficient,” said Berkowitz. “We had been using different excavators to do this work, which were only able to reach between 25 and 30 feet. The A934 CHD has a 56-foot reach with its boom. We can stack materials much higher now. This machine has proven itself on a daily basis with its ease of operation and maintenance. It is a real workhorse.”

Buck Baird and Chuck Berg of Coastline Equipment sold the excavator to Standard Industries. “We've had a long relationship with Coastline,” said Berkowitz. “They have been outstanding in every aspect. Coastline provided a two-day training course for our operators. They have been great with their service, maintenance and parts as well. That machine is in operation the entire time the site is operating. We can't say enough good things about both the equipment we purchased and Coastline.” Berkowitz is so impressed with their latest purchase that he plans to make a second purchase from Coastline later this year.

Standard Industries services Southern California through the Central Coast area. The company's clients include machine shops, manufacturing companies and agricultural and aerospace industries. The company is currently the largest metal recycler in the tri-county area. Among the many materials Standard Industries recycles are ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals including steel, copper, insulated electrical wire, brass, aluminum, stainless and high temperature alloys, as well as wood, rubber, asphalt, concrete, and construction debris.

Standard Industries is a member of ISRI (Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries) and National Demolition Association.

Upholding an outstanding reputation for maintaining high quality control and safety in the workplace, Standard Industries keeps up with current State and Federal guidelines. Standard Industries' dedication to maintaining the highest level of quality control and safety led the company to establish their own safety and quality control training programs, raising the attention of domestic and foreign scrap consumers.
