Since 1946, Bragg Crane Service has been a part of an industry to which it has brought innovation, diversification and a reputation for professionalism long regarded within the industry. This third generation, family-held company is currently co-owned by George Bragg and Mary Ann (Bragg) Pool. George oversees all the company operations as President and C.E.O. while Mary Ann manages all the financial operations as Secretary/Treasurer/C.F.O. The high level of service and down-to-earth professionalism that their father, Jim Bragg, started with all those years ago has managed to stay firmly rooted in the company through all the changes and challenges of the past 55 years.
Through it all, Bragg has managed to remain at the forefront of this industry and become one of the most diversified crane rental firms in the 11 western states and has heartedly embraced the major facets of crane service activities; including large crane rental, heavy haul operations and rigging projects. Perhaps what is most amazing is the significant capacity with which Bragg can perform these duties.
The company's equipment fleet is arguably the largest on the West Coast and includes a combination of 14 crawler cranes, more than 100 lattice boom truck cranes, approximately 80 hydraulic telescoping cranes and 50 rough terrain cranes. The newest additions to their fleet include the Liebherr LR 1400 and 1280, as well as the Grove 6350 (350-Ton) and 5240 (240-Ton) cranes. Bragg was recently named 25th in the world of crane service companies by the international trade magazine "Cranes Today". This ranking was based on a combination of total units and lift capacities of equipment fleet. This vast array of equipment has allowed Bragg to work in all aspects of the industry, such as heavy lift, industrial and commercial construction, refinery work and steel erection.

Bragg recently completed work on the much-anticipated "Hollywood & Highland" complex that was built to help revitalize downtown Hollywood. The 8-acre complex houses many retail shops, world class restaurants, cinemas, hotels and the Kodak Theater - the new home of the Academy Awards presentations. It also boasts a parking structure of more than one million square feet that can accommodate 3,000 vehicles. Bragg was the exclusive crane service company on the $275 million project under general contractor, McCarthy Construction. This exclusivity applied to all of the subcontractor work, as well. The 30-month job involved Bragg hanging all the iron on the project, including the six-level underground parking structure and any crane work necessary for the subcontractors. The unique, fast-track construction project was one of the higher visibility jobs in southern California during recent years. Another area in which Bragg has been able to provide significant resources is in the aiding and recovery effort after the occurrence of natural disasters, such as the Northridge and San Francisco/Loma Prieta earthquakes. Bragg has the capability to respond rapidly to emergency situations and meet the retrieval needs at that time with significant manpower and equipment. This capability has also been tested during and after refinery fires and plant explosions. It is this particular service that Bragg is most proud of.
While most of the company's business is conducted throughout California, Arizona and Nevada, they have been known to travel as far as the East Coast for select clients and projects. One particular cross-country endeavor involved the dismantling of the first commercial nuclear power plant in Shipping Port, Pennsylvania and lead to other nuclear work at the Millstone Nuclear Plant in Connecticut. Bragg has even traveled to the Great White North (a.k.a. Alaska) to work a five-year project that involved transporting and installing modular oil fields along the North Slope of Alaska near the Prudo Bay area. Back here at home, Bragg's work can been seen along the north end of the Alameda Corridor near Redondo Beach where they recently assembled and erected 10 bridges for the Alameda Corridor Authority under general contractor, Shimmick Construction. The $2.6 million project involved constructing structural steel trusses over the Los Angeles River and transporting pre-cast concrete sections. Also in the South Bay area, Bragg helped erect massive coke drums at the Mobil Oil Refinery in Torrance. The $3 million dollar job took six cranes just over two months to complete. According to George Bragg, the company's ability to consistently surmount the challenges presented by larger national organizations can be attributed to the company's direct ownership, its nuts and bolts knowledge of the industry and the personal touch with which its clients are treated. Bragg is quick to acknowledge that all this success would not be possible without a tremendous effort from the company's entire management team, including Executive Vice-President Mike Roy and Vice President/ General Manager John Anderson, and its loyal and hard-working employees who are always eager to exceed expectations. With such diverse capabilities, a vast equipment fleet, extensive project experience and a competent employee base it is no wonder that Bragg Crane Service has lasted more than a half-century and shows every sign of being solidly poised for future business success. |
